Real-time strut monitoring - Load Cells and Strain Gauge
Engineers of today require more help to determine if their design has included all unforseen parameters. In today's world, balancing adequacy with practicality is always a challenge for pushing the boundaries of design. It is paramount that Load Cells and Stain Gauge transducer provide informative and accurate load information. Good installation practice, quality sensor and good system set-up is key to obtaining good load results. It is a misconception to assume that laboratory and in-situ measurements yearn the same result. Experience is what seperate the good system from the poor.

How does it work? Vibrating Wire Load Cells and Strain Gauge works on the technology some what like a guitar string. When you tuned a guitar, the frequency changes. This tensioning or compression frequency is then converted to load using Polynomial Factors(PF). PF is another sofisticated word for converting a non linear relationship into a linear one. Load Cell is typically installed between struts while Stain Gauges is installed on the strut itself. Both sensors are connected to a wireless and programmable data logger for data capturing and transmission. Other potential uses are load determination on props, building column, landslides, bridges, piles and others. Both instrument acts as a huge weighing machine where it can be viewed online. Above threshold loads are triggered via SMS.
